Meet Malia

Meet Malia Lupe Nai:

Malia is a third year communications major at UCLA. She is of Polynesian descent specifically Tongan. Malia discusses how Pacific Islander people are pushed more to begin working than education due to family obligations. Additionally she touches on what it’s like beating the stereotypes that come along with body image due to Pacific islander build. With the Pacific Islander community being so small in most universities, Malia has to deal with the challenges of not seeing herself represented in academia.
